Rules for Pilots of Recreational Drones

If you are flying your drone not for commercial purposes, you have to keep in mind a couple of things:

  • Before taking off, check if it is allowed to fly there using Drone Pilot app
  • VLOS - you must be able to see your drone all the time.
  • You are NOT allowed to fly 5 km around airports
  • Do NOT fly closer than 150 meters from other people, building, and traffic

If you fly a drone that weighs less than 2.5 kg:

  • You are asked to send a declaration to the Civil Aviation Authority that you, as a professional drone operator, are aware of your obligations.
  • Your aircraft must be equipped with an auto-landing system in case of emergency.

If you fly a drone that weighs more than 2.5 kg:

  • Your drone has to be registered nationally
  • You must obtain an operating license from the N-CAA
  • To acquire basic aviation knowledge, you must pass an online course
Rules for Pilots of Professional Drones

If you are flying your drone for commercial purposes, you have to keep in mind a couple of things:

  • Before taking off, check if it is allowed to fly there using Drone Pilot app
  • Comply with the national regulations on unmanned aircraft systems
  • VLOS - you must be able to see your drone all the time unless authorised
  • You are not allowed to fly over an altitude of 120 meters unless authorised
  • Do NOT fly closer than 50 meters from other people, building, and traffic
  • Respect privacy and follow Norwegian guidelines to capture moments from the above
  • Have Third Party Liability insurance with coverage of 1 million Euros.

If you fly a drone that weighs less than 2.5 kg:
